Will Simon Phipps Energize OSI?

Former Sun chief open source officer Simon Phipps is joining the Open Source Initiative (OSI) board effective April 1st. Let’s hope Phipps can shake the organization up a bit. I’d hazard a guess that many newcomers to the open source community are partially or even wholly unaware of the OSI and what it’s meant to do, because the OSI has not been a terribly dynamic organization over the past few years

Defective by Design is Defective

Once again the Defective by Design have sprung into action to denounce another product from Apple, and once again nobody really cares. Defective by Design is a marketing campaign sponsored by the Free Software Foundation. While the FSF does plenty of good work, DBD is increasingly out of touch with the majority of users.

The WordPress Foundation is officially open for business. The foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to ensure access to a stable and free platform for Web publishing. There’s not a ton of information on the site just yet , but it does spell out the philosophy of the organization and general information about the new organization
