In his post “Can Mozilla Be Bigger Than Facebook?” Matt Asay wonders what the company’s second act may look like. Most people think of the company as synonymous with its open source browser, Firefox. That’s understandable, as Firefox’s market share is now well over 30 percent in some parts of the world.

Songbird Abandons Official Linux Builds

It’s a disappointing day for Songbird fans on Linux. Actually, the disappointing day was April 2, when Songbird developer Georges Auberger announced the “new tune” for the company: dropping official Linux builds. The Mozilla-based media player has been multi-platform from the start, with support for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Richard Stallman on GPL Exceptions

Richard Stallman raised more than a few eyebrows when he signed the letter objecting to the MySQL purchase . Endorsing, or seeming to endorse, the practice of selling proprietary exceptions to GPL’ed software seemed entirely out of character with Stallman’s comments on Free Software up to that point.
