A demo of Metisse, an X-based window system designed with two goals in mind: make it easy to design and implement innovative window management techniques and conform to existing standards and be robust and efficient enough to be used on a daily basis, making it a suitable platform for the evaluation of the proposed techniques.

Resizing is stretchy instead of solid. Has that changed?
ahhh i dont understand noobs.
so this is cool?
nothing like a good ol shell.
zsh ftw.
I aggree! I wish everyone would stop the inter-distro bickering..
Actually, I think Metisse uses OpenGL (I was wrong). Well, I guess it would be 3D by your standards, but then so would multiple sheets of paper in RL, and they still show 2D, no matter how you turn them.
But yeah… we have to wait for the poster to reply what he meant by it.
mine was the latter. i guess if metisse doesn’t use 3D acceleration that’s a good point, but i was thinking that what makes either a 3D desktop is more along the lines of how it relays the elements of the desktop. in this sense metisse is definitely 3D. you can’t fold or turn something on the z axis in a 2D world.
You have to redefine your question.
Is it: WTH was that about?
or: How come it is not?
My question is the later
And if yours is the former, it’s because some magazines compared it to beryl/compiz (which is, in a sense a 3D desktop – because it uses 3D acceleration).
What’s the track playing? J
“not a 3D desktop!” uhh what?
io uso ubuntu 8.04
Go Metisse! I prefer this over Compiz because it is actually useful.
there is a new linux website, it can direct you to many open source linux applications, it has a section explaining the workings of linux, it even has a page full of open source applications for apple computers and much more
check it ou

I used 3.3 and it worked perfect out of the box on a Athlon XP 2500 + nVidia FX5600. This included all the neat special effects using Beryl.
Thanks for actually replying then, just annoys me when people put stupidly blunt comments.
The interface is very slow, and the area desktop its very unusefull… I talking because ive already tested… I uso beryl now!!
How does it?
try Linux. i recommend the new Sabayon 3.4
That’s amazing !
suks…
OMG !!! :O
Compiz and Beryl best!
OMG! I never thought there is such thing *runs off for sources*
lol, agreed! rofl!
Beryl is equally good for a web designer. I should know ;D
Interesting concept – I might be interested in giving it a go. It seems to be a Windows Manager which is about managing windows, rather than whizzy eye candy.
I’m a website designer and an artist, I use sometimes as many as 6 programs at once, flipping between windows to copy/paste things from one program to another. All these window managing tools would be perfect for my work! The ability to be able to zoom out on the desktop in particular is great. This isn’t just Eyecandy or features for features sake, these are useful for productivity.
